M. Taffer Consulting was created in the Fall of 2018. This new chapter in Marissa’s career allows her to take all of her past experience and lessons learned throughout her career and bring insight, growth and profitability to her clients.
Marissa Taffer is a Philadelphia native. She was educated at Drexel University earning a Bachelors of Arts in Corporate Communications in 2007 and took continuing education classes to earn her PMP in 2016.
Marissa started her career as a Sales Coordinator for the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau in 2007. She increased her responsibility and helped create trade show reporting to better determine ROI, launched the CVB’s first online bid generator, and learned to build a network of vendors to supply the CVB with branded items for clients and visitors.
In 2012, Marissa was recruited by Aramark to support their recently launched Global Sales Team. She created a communications plan and cadence to ensure all business unit and country sales leaders were informed of the work that the team was doing. She supported sales strategy sessions, the launch of a sales functional college and was a key member of the Salesforce.com implementation team.
While at Aramark her responsibilities increased and she was able to launch the first ever Growth Functional Town hall – a quarterly webinar for all sales professionals in the company. She lead communications for the Global Sales Meeting in 2012, 2013, and 2015. In 2013 she launched the first ever mobile meeting app for the company. As she began to take a larger role in leading projects she served as the project manager for a new company wide initiative around standardizing quarterly business reviews and providing better tools and training for leaders in the field.
In addition to her responsibilities within her department Marissa was very active in two of the company ERGs – The Women’s Business Resource Network and Aramark Young Professionals. Marissa served as the Philadelphia hub leader for the Young Professionals in 2014 and was tasked with creating evening events for the Accelerate to Leadership Conference.
In 2016 Marissa joined the team at Spirited Media as the Sales and Events Manager for Billy Penn, the company’s flagship site. In her tenure with Billy Penn, Marissa changed the model for their Who’s Next Series of networking events to include significant and historic venues throughout the city. These venues helped to draw in an elite group of local sponsors and supporters and brought attendance and profitability to new levels. She was able to do this without charging attendees for tickets. Several honorees were able to use these events to grow their careers and landed new jobs or created new and profitable business relationships. Marissa also sold the largest corporate sale in the history of the company before her departure in November of 2017.
At the end of 2017 Marissa took a pivot back into project management and joined From the Future as their first ever project manager. In this role Marissa was responsible for introducing process to the company. She supported the (growing) leadership team through two mergers – first with True Voice Media and then Webris in January of 2018.
When Marissa isn’t working with clients she enjoys dining out at the amazing restaurants in Philadelphia, perfecting her downward dog at yoga, and shopping in Headhouse Market.
Sir Charles of Fairhill AKC-CGC also known as Charlie is Marissa’s right hand. He is usually found snoozing in her lap or nipping at her during conference calls. You may see him make an appearance on Zoom! He oversees the TV, ensures proper work-life balance, and makes sure there are plenty of healthy snacks in the office. When he isn’t helping his mom build her business, Charlie is training to become a Therapy Dog so he can bring joy to everyone he meets!
